What is a tuition guarantee? 2017-08-04T22:38:10+00:00

Helio Training’s Tuition Guarantee is a program where a student who successfully completes the immersive full-stack web development course and receives a certificate of proficiency may request in writing to receive a reimbursement for tuition paid to Helio Training for that course if they are unable to find employment in software development within six months. To qualify, a student must complete Helio’s Career Services Employment Program, be 21 or older (unless an exception is granted), and seeking employment in a major metropolitan area for six months. At this time, some courses are being offered with special introductory pricing. Additionally, students who successfully complete their first bootcamp course may get up to 15% off any additional courses they choose to enroll in. Our instructors and mentors come from a range of backgrounds, and each of them is passionate about technology and education. That means we bring people on board who are experts in their field with the passion to share that expertise with you.

Our class sizes are generally small. We pride ourselves on creating an environment where your instructors will know your name. And you’ll have mentors in class who have the skills and expertise to help you get started in the right direction. Whether you enroll in on-campus or online courses, you’ll get to know your instructors and classmates well.

How do I prepare for a bootcamp? 2017-05-03T00:25:00+00:00

If you’ve already applied and been accepted to our bootcamp, congrats! We can’t wait to learn with you. The best way for you to prepare now is to arrive committed to learning something new and challenging each day. Once you are accepted and have paid your deposit, you will receive any required pre-work that needs to be completed before the bootcamp begins.

If you are a beginning coder, don’t worry. We’ll start with the basics and go from there to get you up to speed in our introductory courses. You may want to use Code.org and other online resources like Codecademy to familiarize yourself with some coding basics before the first day of class. Bootcamps are designed to be completed in a short amount of time. However that time is intense. You are expected to attend every class as concepts, ideas, and projects build on each sequentially over the program. If you do miss a class, it will be difficult to catch up. That being said, if you know you will miss a class, please let your instructor know at your earliest convenience so that we can work with you to help you cover the material. If an emergency arises, we also expect you to inform you instructor so that you may complete any make-up work.

Our online and on-campus bootcamps are hands-on and project-based to help you gain the experience and portfolio you need to get hired in the tech industry. Each class will have time for both lecture and working on projects both individually and in teams. Our curriculum is light on theory and heavy on practical application. This means you’ll spend most of your time working to complete and add to projects that will leave you with a portfolio you’re proud to show off.

Why do I need to apply to a bootcamp? 2017-05-03T00:25:00+00:00

We require all students enrolling in our bootcamps to complete an application for admission. When your application is received, we will call you to discuss your goals, interests, and background. This process will help both of us decide whether or not a bootcamp is a good fit for you. We’re looking for students who are passionate about and have an aptitude for technology. Our ideal bootcamp student is willing to learn and motivated enough to dedicate the time and resources needed to become a tech expert in a few short months. When are bootcamps? 2017-05-03T00:25:00+00:00

We generally offer two schedules for our bootcamps. You may opt for a full-time, immersive program. These bootcamps last for 13 weeks with classes Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Another option is our part-time program. These bootcamps last for 16 weeks and are spread over two weeknights and Saturdays. The weeknight classes are from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Saturday class is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additionally, the part-time bootcamp also includes carefully selected homework assignments to help you continue learning on your own. Both of our bootcamp schedules offer a robust learning opportunity to learn the industry’s most effective and widely used technologies.

Please note that both online and on-campus courses follow the same schedule.

You will be expected to continue learning on your own time. However students attending the 13-week, full-time bootcamp will not have much homework. For students enrolled in the 16-week, part-time bootcamp, you can expect about 10 hours a week of course work that will need to be completed out of class. Instructors and mentors are available to help you through each course.

Can I really become a programmer in weeks? 2017-05-03T00:25:00+00:00

Computer programming is about more than learning a few languages, it’s about learning how to learn. Technology and software development are constantly changing. It’s imperative for any tech professional to keep up. When you begin working in computer science, you have made a decision to change your life. Programming is a lifelong pursuit. So while it may only take a few months to master HTML/CSS, JavaScript, jQuery, MySQL, and more well enough to start your new career or advance your current job, you’ll also leave Helio Training with the ability to continue learning and refining your tech skills. Our introductory courses will help provide you with a solid foundation. Our bootcamps are for techies in all stages of their careers, which means you can take as many courses as you need as often as you want to continue expanding your skill set.

When you successfully complete a Helio Training bootcamp, you’ll have a portfolio of projects to highlight the skills you’ve learned. Additionally during your bootcamp, we’ll provide you with Career Services. Our team will share with you best practices for résumé writing, job interviewing, and job searching. You’ll go through mock interviews to help you prepare for the real deal. And we’ll even help you connect with our industry partners by sharing your résumé with them.

Will I need to bring my own laptop? 2017-05-03T00:25:00+00:00

The short answer is yes. You may opt to purchase a MacBook Air trough Helio Training for an additional $600. Or if you would like to bring your laptop, you may do so provided it meets the basic requirements for software development. Our newly renovated space has been designed exclusively for use as a tech training center. That means you’ll have access to plenty of outlets and high-speed internet along with comfortable chairs and desks for hands-on learning. Our campus also has a great lounge for you to relax or get some work done during breaks, and you’ve got loads of lunch options right out our door.

Helio Training’s campus is in downtown Salt Lake City, Utah at 165 South Main Street (in The Herald Building). And, you’ll enjoy free parking when you attend a Helio bootcamp.
